Two people were found dead after a SWAT standoff in Cobb County, Georgia. The standoff lasted 14 hours and police were never able to make contact with the man inside the home who was allegedly holding a woman hostage with a gun. Smyrna and Cobb County police also discovered a baby in the home.
Sunday afternoon, a lengthy SWAT standoff ended with 2 people dead in Georgia.
Police were called to the Oakdale Bluff community in Smyrna around midnight on Sunday after a man was spotted with a gun inside a home.
According to reports, the man might have been holding his wife or girlfriend hostage. But police were not able to confirm the nature of the relationship between the pair.
The SWAT team was stationed around the townhome for more than 14 hours and never made contact with the kidnapper or the victim.
During the 14 hour standoff, no shots were ever fired. At around 1:30 p.m., police officers took the decision to send robots into the house.
They discovered two dead people inside, a male and a female. Georgian authorities also found an uninjured baby on the crime scene.
The standoff officially ended around 2 p.m. Sunday. The baby was rapidly taken to a nearby hospital for observation.
During the standoff 12 people were evacuated in the area, and have not been authorized back inside. Some people who live in the neighborhood were not able to access their home during the standoff.
