12-foot python trapped in barbecue is the odd story making headlines in Florida today. Residents of a gated community in Florida City celebrated the fourth of July by trapping a Burmese python measuring 12 foot long into a barbecue grill which they covered with a large trash bag as they waited for authorities from the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to come and collect it.
Late Thursday night, Juan Rivero and his 12-year-old son who were preparing for the fourth of July festivities decided to ride their bikes around the Gateway Estates Park in Florida City, Florida where they live.
When the father and son returned home, they were shocked by what greeted them at the gate. The pair stumbled on a 12-Foot python crawling at the entrance of the gated community.
Rivero was scared of the reptile and decided not to touch it. Juan who knew that his neighbor Daryl Brooks was an expert on snakes asked his son to get her.
The courageous woman called on another resident and together they wrestled with the beast for several minutes before eventually trapping it into a barbecue grill.
But the fight was not over. When Daryl Brooks noticed that the giant snake was trying to escape from the grill she grabbed a pillow case and tried to cover it – but that failed.
She eventually found a large garbage bag to cover both the animal and the grill as she waited for the authorities to arrive.
A team from the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s venom unit was sent over to capture the python (see picture above of members of venom unit posing with the python).
According to a congratulatory tweet from Arnold Piedrahita Jr., public information officer at Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the python will be tuned over to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission that will set it free.
We can not help but ask, what did the neighbors do with the barbecue where the 12-Foot python was trapped, did they cook hot dogs and burgers on it for the fourth of July?
